This week’s Tech Talk Tuesday included three presentations on apps to help medical students in their studies during the first and second years.

• AnkiMobile Flashcards were presented by Kate Xie, MS2. Kate did a demonstration of the app, both on a laptop and the iPad, and then showed students how to make flashcards using the features of Anki such as multimedia embedding, Cloze deletion, templates and Excel spreadsheet imports. Finally, useful tips for studying with Anki were offered.
• The Case Files Biochemistry (LANGE Case Files) (by McGraw-Hill Medical) app was presented by Shawn Kaye, MS1. The Case Files app includes clinical cases, clinical pearls and board-style questions. It serves as a great aid for small-group study and is highly recommended for medical students. The first case is free for download for those who would like to preview the app.
• The Lange Biochemistry and Genetics Flashcards (by Modality, Inc.) app was presented by Srikanth Krishnan, MS1. This intuitively designed app includes a nice organization for diseases using metabolic pathways and is a good reference for disease profiles. The flashcard mode allows you to test yourself with nice interactivity, but does not offer true board-style questions for studying.
