Annual Faculty and Resident Training Launch

The “Faculty and Resident Training on SOM Learning Objectives & Key Policies”, a training module administered through the UC Learning Center annually, will launch this week for AY 2019-20 to all faculty, residents and staff who must attest to reviewing its contents. This annual training module contains:

  • The School of Medicine’s program objectives
  • Course and clerkship objectives for the core medical school curriculum
  • Key educational policies including policies on supervision, duty hours and mistreatment

This is a mandatory training that should be completed by all who are involved in the education of our medical students and is tracked by the Office of Education Compliance and Quality for accreditation purposes.

Upcoming Education Conferences and Opportunities

Innovations in Medical Education (IME) Conference 2020

  • The IME conference is a local conference focused on medical education teaching hosted by the Keck School of Medicine at USC.
  • Conference Date/Location: Feb. 14-15, 2020 in Los Angeles, CA
  • The deadline for abstract submissions for workshops and exemplars is Aug. 5, 2019. The deadline for abstract submissions for innovations and “cool ideas” is Sept. 30, 2019.

2019 WGEA Call for Mini-Grant Proposals 

  • The Western Group on Education Affairs (WGEA) Call for Mini-Grant Proposals is NOW OPEN.
  • The WGEA seeks to promote scholarship in medical education and advance the community of scholarship within the Western region. To that end, funds are available for investigators via a mini-grant program. Investigators can request up to $5,000 to initiate a new study or up to $1,000 for completing an ongoing study (“finishing award”).
  • The deadline for submissions is Sept. 30, 2019.
