Transforming Medical Education with the iPad – Lessons Learned from the iMedEd Initiative

Warren Wiechmann, MD MBA will discuss how the iPad is helping transform the curriculum at the UC Irvine School of Medicine to make medical education more innovative and interactive.

The iMedEd Initiative has provided each student in the Class of 2014 with an iPad and a full complement of electronic textbooks and core notes necessary for the first year of medical school.

The iMedEd Initiative has also served as a framework for incorporating other innovative technologies into the curriculum – podcasting, simulation, and bedside ultrasound.

The presentation will also discuss faculty adoption of new technologies, strategies for enlisting student support, and the transition to digital formats by medical publishers.
