iMedEd Release Notes Version 09.25.15

Bringing Design to UCI Health Clinician Education

Dr. Alisa Wray, a Multimedia Design Education Techology Fellow in the Department of Emergency Medicine and a recent addition to the iMedEd team, partnered with Dr. Minh-Ha Tran of the UCI Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine earlier this academic year to help create a series of posters for the new “Blood Utilization Project.” This project was started to better educate healthcare workers in lab draws and transfusions with the end goal of decreasing unnecessary blood draws and over transfusions.

While working on this project, Dr. Wray found it “energizing to incorporate art and medicine”. She looked for inspiration from iconic art and movie posters including works by Warhol, who is one of her favorite artists. Dr. Wray’s goal was to use familiar and memorable graphics to help trigger the recall of important pearls/reminders such as how daily blood draws can have a cumulative affect on the patient. The educational posters from this project were printed and placed in the work rooms at UCI Health. Stop and take a moment to read them if you haven’t already.
