Med iBookJam Showcase and Awards Ceremony

The 2015 Fall Med iBookJam kicked off on September 15th with 14 teams. The event concluded on September 28th with an iBooks showcase and an awards ceremony to recognize all participants and the winning teams. We had 52 faculty, residents and students participate on 14 teams to produce 15 impressive iBooks in under 2 weeks. The iBooks that were submitted focused on a range of healthcare topics as well as both patient and medical student/resident education.

Judges for the Med iBookJam included Dr. Sarah Eichhorn, UCI Associate Vice Provost of Teaching and Learning, Dr. Marco Angulo, Faculty Director for Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Service, Dr. Warren Wiechmann, Associate Dean for Clinical Science Education and Educational Technology, and Dr. Julie Youm, Director of Instructional Technologies. We also want to recognize Dr. Behnoosh Afghani, Director of Health and Science Enrichment Programs, who partnered with iMedEd to launch the Technology Innovation Program through which gifted high school students were able to work with us in the Med iBookJam, and Francisco Chanes, Media Producer, for his time and contribution on video production assistance for many of the competing teams.

Teams will continue working on their iBooks with the goal of publishing them in the Apple iBooks Store or internally for access by patients/students. Of note, the Third Place iBook from our Spring Med iBookJam, Stone Trees by Dr. Ralph Clayman and Dr. Martin Hofmann (about the formation, diagnosis and treatment of urinary stones), has recently been published in the iBooks Store and can be downloaded here. We look forward to sharing more additions to this growing body of UCI generated content soon!
