iMedEd Release Notes Version 10.09.15

Engaging with Your Audience using Poll Everywhere

Poll Everywhere is an audience response tool that enables you to interact with your learners by asking them questions that they can answer via text message, Twitter or a web browser. With this tool, there is no need for physical hardware, like a clicker device, and responses can be seen in real-time from a web browser or embedded directly into your Powerpoint presentation eliminating the need to jump between your slides and another tool.

iMedEd purchased an institution-wide plan for Poll Everywhere this summer and conducted many workshops to introduce faculty, staff and students to the features of this newly acquired system. During the past 3 months, we have had great success using this audience response tool with over 600 polls created and more than 17,000 poll responses recorded during medical student and resident lectures, training workshops and grand rounds. The Department of Urology was the first to integrate use of this tool through the foresight of Dr. Ralph Clayman and has used it to engage faculty and residents during grand rounds presentations each week. Poll Everywhere has also actively been used in Medical Education in the Inpatient Medicine Clerkship as well as many of our preclinical courses including Microbiology, Pharmacology and General Pathology.

If you are interested in using Poll Everywhere to interact with your audience/learners, contact Dr. Julie Youm at jyoum@uci.edu.
