iMedEd Release Notes Version 5.20.16

Welcoming a New Cohort of Medical Students into the Clerkships

On Monday, May 16, 2016, a new cohort of MS3’s returned for orientation in preparation for beginning their clinical years of medical school. As a part of this orientation, students were introduced to Google Glass, a wearable device enabling first-person perspective video recording. Google Glass has been integrated into the clinical exam (OSCE) for the Family Medicine Clerkship, where standardized patients wear Glass to record the patient’s perspective of an encounter, enabling students to see themselves through the patient’s eyes and receive feedback/reflect on their communication skills and body language. Glass has also been integrated into the OB/GYN Clerkship OSCE where students wear the device so that they can receive feedback on their suturing skills. Join us in welcoming these students onto the wards starting Monday, May 23!

If you are an interested student, resident, fellow or faculty member and want to learn more about Google Glass or be a champion for a pilot in your clinical area, contact Dr. Warren Wiechmann at wiechmaw@uci.edu or Dr. Julie Youm at jyoum@uci.edu.
