White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2020

Our newest class of medical students were welcomed to the medical profession during the School of Medicine White Coat Ceremony at the Irvine Barclay Theater on August 5, 2016. Each year, 104 students participate in this rite of passage celebrating the beginning of their professional career. The evening includes students receiving their first white coat and culminates with the “Oath for the Doctors of Medicine”. Dr. Julianne Toohey, Associate Dean of Student Affairs, served as this year’s keynote speaker and offered a moving speech about the many “pledges” students will take as a physician including one to take care of themselves as well as others, the inspiration by her “Dr. Barbie” to become a doctor and the joys of her many years of experience as an obstetrician/gynecologist.

To enable family and friends from near and far to share in this special event, the ceremony was live streamed by the iMedEd team. The live stream had 137 unique viewers and as many as 40 concurrent users with iOS as the most popular platform for viewing.
