iMedEd Release Notes Version 05.29.15

New Innovations

This week, we launched the New Innovations medical education management system to the rising MS3’s who began their first clinical rotations on Tuesday, May 26th. This marks the first time that New Innovations will be used for UME though this system has been used in GME for some time. In the first phase of the New Innovations release, students will be using the system for the following activities:

  • To receive final clerkship grade reports
  • To log cases (required procedures and diagnoses identified by the clerkship directors have been entered into the system)
  • To log observed H&Ps
  • To log work hours (if assigned for a random audit)

One of our primary goals for New Innovations is to eliminate any paper checklists that have been used for case logs so that the clinical responsibilities of students can be centrally tracked and the need for remediation more easily identified. This is especially important for LCME compliance. New Innovations will replace the UC Irvine Case Logs system that was previously in place for this purpose.

Note that faculty evaluations of students and student evaluations of rotations/course will continue to happen in our existing UC Irvine Student Evaluation system during this phase. However, we are making improvements to this system so that remote faculty can have easier access to the evaluations. These changes will be announced when implemented.

Workshop: An Introduction to the Canvas and Ilios Integration

We will be conducting workshops during the week of June 8 to present further details on the integration of curricular content between Canvas and Ilios. Those who are directly affected by this integration will be contacted with further details about the workshops. Anyone else who is interested in attending these workshops are also welcome and should contact us for more information.

Thank you for following the progress on our technology rollouts. Please let us know if you have any questions.
