iMedEd Release Notes Version 3.11.16

Official Launch of the FLAME Initiative

FLAME, which stands for “Five-minute Lectures Accelerating Medical Education”, is a novel educational project with broad goals of creating free, easily accessible, five-minute presentations covering every important aspect of graduate medical education, all made available on www.flame.rocks.

FLAME was born from a need that Jon Steller, MD, PGY3, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, saw as a medical student for dedicated one-on-one teaching from residents/attendings, even if for just five minutes. Laura Fitzmaurice, MD, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Roshan Burns, MS3, have joined Dr. Steller to launch the first phase of this initiative with a series of lectures on OBGYN topics.

Dr. Steller shares that “While the program has many unique attributes, Phase 1 is now formally launching with hopes of encouraging and empowering busy physicians to teach medicine to medical students more frequently, more thoroughly, and more sensationally. Most importantly, FLAME transcends the neuro-synaptic mess of learning and teaching philosophy, and instead emphasizes one simple concept: learning is catalyzed by teaching! By investing in healers around the globe, it is our long-term goal that knowledge can empower!”
